Today I went to the hospital early in order to
be there for Olivia’s eye exam. Dr. G
did the exam and informed me that her vessel has grown but the ridge is still
the same. He feels more positive about
her situation which makes me feel more comfortable. In his 20 + years of experience he has seen
eyes improve when the vessels grow out.
Dr. G also mentioned that there is no substantial deterioration which is
also great news. He will continue to monitor
her progress weekly. Next week his
colleague will be giving us a call to update us on the exam because he will be
on vacation.
Olivia’s cpap pressure has been decreased as
well. I’ve mentioned in a previous post
that she is breathing on her own without assistance. The cpap is just a constant pressure of air,
this is being decreased gradually as she goes along. Another big move is that Olivia is now on bolus
feeds. This means the continuous feeds
stop and she will be fed every 3 hours like a “big” girl, well a medium girl
really since she is still being fed through the tube ;-). This changes her touch times as well so we
will readjust our schedules accordingly.
In addition to Olivia’s “medium” girls feed, she got a “medium” girl
bed! She is out of the micro preemie incubator and is now in the next step up
incubator. The big girl bed is an actual
little crib they have; all in due time. Livvy
had many triumphs today, and another would be gaining another ounce! She is now
2.13 lbs, at this rate she will be 3 pounds by Sunday. We will see!
